The Barking and Dagenham Apprenticeship Scheme secures future job’s fund

The success of the future jobs fund means that there are now financial incentives for taking on an apprentice

Nationally the future jobs fund aims to create 150,000 additional jobs, primarily aimed at 18-24 year olds who have been out of work for a set amount of time to deliver real benefits to communities. The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s successful application was to create 100 apprenticeship opportunities for local residents and give £6500 to each employer who creates an apprenticeship opportunity for apprentices within the future jobs fund criteria.

Quote from Steve Lee, Apprenticeship Development Manager:

“I am so happy with this current success….. What we would like to
do is urge other employers to come on board. We have worked
hard in promoting the benefits of Apprenticeships and we have been inundated with interest from the residents of Barking and Dagenham. Employment opportunities are needed to meet the demand from
applicants. We are now in a position to offer employers significant
financial incentives to employ an apprentice, this combined with the
support we provide shows that it has never been easier to employ an apprentice.”
